New 2024 Covid Vaccines
Two of this year’s versions of the Covid-19 vaccines have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and should be available soon. Both Pfizer and Moderna have prepared vaccines that will be effective against the KP.2 strain of coronavirus that appeared this spring, as well as the most prevalent variants that are circulating in the United States right now.
New CDC Respiratory Infection Guidelines
On March 1st the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated respiratory infection guidelines. In a significant departure from existing guidelines that have been in place since the arrival of Covid, the CDC is now combining their recommendations for all respiratory infections into one protocol.
Water, Water Everywhere…but Many Just Don’t Drink (Enough)!
At every annual visit my patients and I discuss water and fluid intake. The usual recommendation is that adults should consume at the very least 40 ounces of water per day, plus other liquids as desired. I estimate that more than half of my patients DO NOT drink enough water, often drinking only 1-2 glasses daily.
Multivitamins and Memory
In a recent article published in The American Journal of Nutrition, researchers from Boston’s Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals revealed the results of the COSMOS (Cocoa Supplement and Multivitamins Outcomes Study) trial. This double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the gold standard for clinical research, tested the effects of a daily multivitamin on cognitive changes in adults 60 and older.
